I was recently reminded of an essay on why it is sometimes OK to be a single issue voter.
Some of you will have seen this before, but many probably have not.
At the very least, it should make you think.
<dc:subject>Affinity - HAM</dc:subject>

Last night (Wednesday, 15th June) a small group met after the regular CVSC meeting to explore interest in HAM radio operations/training associated with the CVSC.
The CVSC board have been discussing the possibility of encouraging what they are describing as "affinity groups" within the membership of the CVSC. There are obviously shared interests beyond shooting with many members (e.g. fishing, hunting, hiking, archery, ham radio, specific guns (1911, AR15, shotgun, bench-rest) etc. etc.).

Since Dan is a ham radio operator, and he knew other members were too, looking to see if there was interest in forming a group within the CVSC was a natural step.

Of course, this sort of group requires some sort of critical mass, and some driving from one (or preferably more) of the members to make it a success. Not all of us have unlimited time, and that is recognized from the outset. However, we think that if there is sufficient interest we can start to think about various activities. Some of the suggestions are:

* Educational presentations for anyone interested (or maybe interested) in ham radio - what it is, what it isn't, etc.
* Classes/practical assistance for anyone interested in studying for a license. (Particularly younger members or children of members).
* Demonstrations of various HAM activities.
* Participation in National Field Day events.
* Anything else.

If you have a license and are at all interested, let us know.
If you are interested in finding out a bit about HAM radio - again, let us know.
If you have any comments (positive or negative ) let us know.

Philip
Youth marksmanship team

The C.V.S.C. Shooting Stars Youth Shooting Teams are in full swing. Tuesday evenings at the range are full of learning and fun. We have 24 young people this year participating in all levels of marksmanship training and competition. From the newest members to the seasoned veterans of the team, everyone is working hard to improve their skills as they progress to the next stage of marksmanship. Thanks to our dedicated coaches and helpers, the kids are having a great time as they move up in the ranks of marksmen and women.

This year we have four teams. Team 1 is teaching the fundamentals of marksmanship to young people. Some are as young as six years old. The excitement of the members of team one is contagious. It is fun to see their faces as they begin what we hope will be a lifetime of shooting fun. The members of team 2 are our returning intermediate shooters as well as more experienced newcomers. They are learning to refine their marksmanship skills as they move on to more challenging skills (and smaller targets). Teams 3 and 4 are reserved for some of our more advanced shooters. The reward of hard work is some times more hard work and the knowledge of a job well done. The shooters who have progressed to the marksman 1st class or higher level are invited to join either the precision rifle team (Team 3) or the practical rifle team (Team 4). As a club we should be proud of the young people who have put the effort into diligent practice. These youth have achieved a level of skill not seen in many people their age. It is gratifying to know that we are providing a place for children and youth to learn the unique value and responsibility that the shooting sports offer.

I would like to thank the Membership, Officers and Board of C.V.S.C. for supporting this program. Thank you also to those of you who have made donations to keep the program going. I also want to give a special thanks to all the coaches and helpers who give of their time to make this program possible.

Hi everybody,

We're going to try something new for the rest of the year and see how it goes. We'll be changing our meeting times to be the third Wednesdays of each month from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm at the Police Department Meeting Room. This change is in response to many people who had alternate work schedules who wanted an evening meeting time. See you June 15th.
